Retiring the old Editor

As you may have noticed if you use the old Editor within Domus we are due to retire this option at the end of October.

To provide the simple word processing capabilities within Domus for the Documents and Templates we use products that we license from other people rather than writing our own so as to get the best editing functionality. The old editor that we are retiring has not been supported or developed now by the people who wrote it for over 4 years, and therefore it is very likely that it will just stop working in newer browsers at some point which is why we wanted to move people over to the new editor before that happened.

Newer editors like the one that we use now within Domus have fixed a security flaw (which the old editor has not, another reason that we wish to move people away from it) which is why you cannot use all the ways that you might have been copy-pasting text before which include right-clicking with the mouse and selecting copy or paste from the menu that appears. If you do use them, then you will see security messages or additional edit boxes appearing for you to paste text into. This is not something that we can change, nor would we wish too as we want our system to be as secure as possible.

Within the new editor you can copy and paste text without the security messages appearing by using either the keyboard commands of Ctrl-C (press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time) to copy and Ctrl-V to paste or by using the Edit menu at the top of your browser. If you are using an Apple Mac, then the keyboard commands are Cmd-C (press the Cmd key and the C key at the same time) and Cmd-V instead.

I hope the above makes sense and explains why we are making the change. Please comment below if you have any questions about this.

Thanks,

Caroline
