Agents' Mutual - will it work?

Started by Jason Attfield on 26 Feb 2014 19:55

Agents' Mutual has been founded by some of the leading estate and lettings agents in the UK to create a new property portal. It aims to counter the threat of what they call an "anti-competitive duopoly".

But will it work? Will you sign up for it?

We all moan about the cost of the 'duopoly'. It's never going to improve without competition. I'm in.

Having a meeting with Agents' Mutual and our competitors tomorrow to discuss this proposal. If all the independents in our area sign up for it then it'll definitely work. We then have the choice of staying with one of the 'duopoly'. This is the point when the tables can turn and if all the agents come together to arrange a meeting with zoopla and rightmove, I think they may have to surrender to giving us a better deal. We've heard a group of agents in Wales have done so, managing to strike a far better deal with rightmove.....

@Stuart - I'd be interested to hear how that meeting went.

Is anyone else joining forces with their competitors to talk to Agents' Mutual or get a better deal from Rightmove/Zoopla?

We haven't seen much action in our region regarding the set up - but it can only be good news.

Without significant VC backing it won't work.

We had their rep in to see us yesterday. We're signing up as it seems a no-brainer to us. We'll drop Zoopla, although we would rather drop Rightmove from the point of view of saving money!

According to Estate Agent Today, Agents' Mutual has announced that it is to be called On The Market when it launches in 2015.

It's not the estate agents that need convincing, it's the public, the property seller and buyer.
It is ingrained in their psyche that they initially search rightmove and then Zoopla, period.

Try wining an instruction without being on either.
